Epiphany (January) Epiphany is one of the most important religious celebrations of the year. Following a special Mass at the Cathedral of each town, a religious procession takes place down to the sea, at around 10.30 hrs, leading to a ceremonial baptism of the Holy Cross into the sea. During the ceremony the Bishop throws the Holy Cross into the sea and young men dive into the water to retrieve the cross and return it to the priest.
Procession of St Lazarus (April) Eight days before the Greek Orthodox celebration of Easter, the townspeople of Larnaca celebrate the feast day of their patron saint, St Lazarus, with a lively procession.
Anthestiria in Larnaca (May) The Anthestiria Festival is a celebration of spring and nature's rebirth. A parade of floats and people carrying beautiful, fresh flowers fills Larnaca's seafront promenade
Kataklysmos (June) Larnaca beach, CyprusThe Christian feast of Pentecost is known as Kataklysmos (Festival of the Flood) and is celebrated all over the island of Cyprus. In Larnaca, the seafront promenade comes alive with fairs, boat races, music, dance, poetry and theatre.
Larnaca Summer Festival (July) Larnaca hosts a festival of music and performing arts. Outdoor concerts take place in the courtyard of the medieval fort and also at the Pattichion Amphitheatre.

Larnaca is the oldest living city of Cyprus. Unlike other ancient cities of Cyprus, which were abandoned by their inhabitants, Larnaca from the time of its founding 6,000 years ago, has existed and still exists on the same site.
The major international airport of Cyprus, Larnaca International Airport is located in this city. It has a population of 72,000 (2001) and is the island's second commercial port and an important tourist resort.
Larnaca is one of the major seaside resorts in Cyprus. There are numerous beaches in and around Larnaca which extend for approx 25 km. The main Phinikoudes and McKenzie beaches both have been awarded Blue Flags for environmental cleanliness |

Larnaca Salt Lake
Located near Larnaca International Airport, the slat lake fills with water during the winter and is visited by flocks of flamingoes who stay here from November till the end of March. During the summer period, the salt
lake dries up. |

Old Aqueduct The old Aqueduct, also known as Kamares (Arches), was built to provide Larnaca with water. It stands outside the town on the way to Limassol. It was built in Roman style in 1745 to carry water from a source about 6 miles south of Larnaca into the town. |

Stavrovouni Monasteri The monastery is located about 15 miles west of Larnaca, which stands on the peak of a striking lone mountain over which St. Helena, the finder of the cross of Jesus, saw a strange light gleam. Taking it as a sign from heaven, she founded the monastery and left a piece of the Cross enshrined there. |

Church of St. Lazarus This magnificent Orthodox Church was built in the town over the tomb of St. Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha. He died here and was buried in the church named after him. In 890 A.D. his tomb was found bearing the inscription "Lazarus the friend of Christ". |

Fort of Larnaca The fort was erected by the Turks in 1625 and it now houses a small archaeological museum. Its inner courtyard is used as an open air garden - theatre during the summer months. |

Pierides Museum The Pierides Museum is home to a collection of precious folkloric and archaeological artifacts which has been assembled over five generations by the Pierides family. |
